Nutrition: Where to start in evaluating fad diets.

When considering the nutritional aspect of wellness, I believe a common sense approach should be the starting point. Obviously, there’s an almost limitless variety of "popular" or what might be called "fad" diets out there - Atkins, South Beach, keto, macros, vegan, paleo, and intermittent fasting to name just a few of the diet practices in mainstream media.

It is not my goal to disparage the alternatives available. Rather, I suggest that when making a diet choice, ask "is this going to supply my body with the fuel it needs?, are there possible side effects?, is this plan going to be sustainable for me?"

So, with all that said, in my first nutrition post, I suggest starting with some basic common sense information that is publicly available. Several good resources to review are www.ChooseMyPlate.gov and also Dietary Guidelines for Americans (www.health.gov/dietaryguidelines).

Here you will find some good, common sense information. Again, this is just a place to start when considering dietary alternatives. In future posts, I'll provide some details on some of the popular diet practices. I also am going to be providing some great, healthy AND delicious recipes! I promise they will be easy to prepare, and ones that I use ALL the time - and, trust me, I LOVE food!!

So, there you have it folks, a starting point in building one of the pillars in your holistic wellness - nutrition. Until next time, be well!!
